Busy Little C’s

Clearly I am neglecting you when it comes to Celtics coverage but think of it this way, now when you read a post it is covered in deliciousness instead of you having to wade through all of the junk like this to get to nitty-gritty purely for your entertainment… and yes, I just “F.Y.E.’d” you! (I hope I don’t have to “™” that!)

Anyways, The Truth and the boys have been busy little C’s since our last post covering the Green. Three more games and three more wins for the Celtic’s as predicted by yours truly as the Sixers, Raptors, and Heat were unworthy opponents for our hometown team who seem to be finding their form once again. Beating both the Sixers and Raptors by 13 points each and the Heat by 7 (thanks to a strong final 2 minutes), this team seems to be starting to find it’s swagger again just the way (and when) they need to.

This week could definitely pose a big threat for the Green as they continue onto the final 3/4 of their 4 game road trip. Starting with a visit to the newly refreshed Charlotte Bobcats who are coming off of a wild 4 game win streak vs. the likes of Indy, Toronto, The Lebrontourage, and the Wizards all in impressive fashion. With the ‘Cats running the ball led by their newest acquisition, Stephen Jackson, and having Tyson Chandler getting fined for tweeting during games, the C’s better take this team more seriously than they did during their October 28th meeting in Boston where the homers dominated 92-59.

After some time in NC, they will head to San Antonio for a rodeo with the 9-6 Spurs on Thursday, 12/3. Another team coming off of a big win streak, this time of 5 games, the Spurs will be right where they want to be, heading into a big game with 3 days off in between games and a well rested starting lineup. This should be a tough game and I think it will be one of the most memorable of the season as the constantly impressive Tim Duncan clashes aging bodies with KG in a battle to see who can stay on the floor and out of a full body cast longer.

The Celtics will get almost no turn-around and are sure to be found gasping for air come Friday, 12/4, when they visit the 9-8 OKC Thunder to run with the youthful group led by Kevin Durant in nearly every category. The Thunder have been fairly inconsistent this season with wins over big teams like the Spurs, Heat, and Jazz and losses to teams like the Clippers, Magic, Lakers, and Rockets over the past couple weeks.

68077_bobcats_celtics_basketballEither way, the Celtics have a tough stretch going on this week and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Best case scenario would obviously be for the C’s to be able to get a sizable lead in either the Charlotte or San Antonio game in order to be able to keep everyone rested a bit but looking at what these teams have done of late, that seems highly unlikely.

The shining period of time for this Celtics team which may be able to put to rest my entire focus on… “rest” was the impressive fourth quarter in Miami. The Heat opened up the fourth quarter on an impressive 9-2 run which put them up 74-69 but the C’s were able to outdo Miami in the end on the backs of KG and Rondo on the offensive side while Pierce stifled D. Wade down the stretch.

Over the past 3 games, KG has averaged 18.3 ppg which is impressive after a slow start, Pierce is currently looking at career best numbers in shooting from everywhere on the floor, and Rondo has been THE GUY at the point for this team down tough stretches. Allen has had a fairly quiet season so far without the last second daggers or quick screens we are used to but as we saw in the playoffs last year, he can step out with a historic effort on any given night. Perkins has established himself as one of the most solid big men to handle the paint and ‘Sheed has made more news via 2 tough games of shooting than Tiger Woods has over this rumored affair… ok, maybe not.

‘Sheed quickly put the chatter about his play to rest and opened his mouth about players “flopping” to gain foul calls.  The best excerpts from this Boston.com piece are here:

“It’s watered down, with all that flopping [stuff],’’ Wallace said.

“They set rules on us to the point where you’re taunting. When Paul dunked it and then, Paul didn’t say nothing, he just looked at him. Let The Golden Child do that or one of the NBA [Basketball] Without Borders kids do that and it’s all fine and dandy.’’

Asked if he was referring to Cleveland’s LeBron James, Wallace said, “Take a guess,’’ acknowledging that he was.

“I’m a straight shooter now,’’ Wallace said. “I ain’t going to [expletive] you all.”

Unfortunately, the Green and Lebrontourage don’t tangle again until the end of February so we won’t get to see any fun-time tussles between ‘Sheed and Lebron anytime soon. But hopefully the Celtics can keep a torrid pace and return home over the weekend boasting about an overly successful road trip.
