El Musta… Um… Week 10 Picks

insert-foot-in-mouth-722877

Let me introduce myself, Foot and Mouth Pro (2nd place contender in the 4 Sport Boston Football League), filling in for El Mustachio this week.  This week’s pick ’em article is slightly deflated a) because I’m the substitute teacher this week and b) apparently there was a Thursday game and I had no idea.  Leave it to the sub to screw up the lesson plan!  Time to rally, bring it Sport’s Gal!

* Just a quick side note/rant about the CHI/SF game, I hope you enjoyed your time on a quality (though fantasy) team JC because you are headed back to being bench warmer!

Steelers v. Bengals +7

This week gives us one consequential division matchup to look forward to, the Bengals and Steelers.  I use the term “look forward to” loosely as I feel personal animosity towards the Steelers and do not take enjoyment in watching them win. But win I think they will. While they lost to Cincy at home in Week 3, I don’t think the Steelers will provide the opportunity for the Bengals to take over in this game.  Since beating the Steelers, most of their wins have been against less than outstanding NFL (perhaps excluding the struggling Ravens) teams this season.

I can’t fully explain my personal prejudices against the Steelers; perhaps it is their team colors that exude dirt and grime as does the city of Pittsburgh.  I really don’t understand how fans develop that have no association with the city itself.  I guess not all of us are lucky enough to call New England home.  Just between us, my irrational animosity towards the team and its fans may or may not have had something to do with the disappearance of the team’s flag from my neighbor’s front yard.

Jets v. Jaguars +7large_rex-ryan514

The big bad wolf is home this week and it’s a warm breeze coming to NY.  Ryan’s chiding has weakened to packing advice for the opponent this week.  Hopefully this means they’ve learned to do their talking on the field!? Doubtful! No matter how hard he huffs and puffs before and after game time, over the last 5 weeks, only 1 win has resulted.  However, their opponent likely brings weak challenges with them, especially with the health of Jones-Drew in question. Combined with their atrocious defense, Mark Sanchez should outplay Garrard.  I’ll take the favorite in this match up.

Cardinals v. Seahawks +8.5

As a new resident of the state of AZ (run primarily by a racist corrupt official named “Sherriff Joe” – shout out to you) I find the fans to be slightly less lame than those of the Pacific Northwest but still lacking a deeply founded and withstanding fan base.  For example, in a state that lives and breathes its sports teams, if you go to a local bar on Sunday you will likely see fans donning jerseys with dozen of various player’s names, new and old.  In AZ, you see Hightower, Boldin, Warner, and Fitzgerald 98% of the time.  In fact, during the Green Bay/Minnesota matchup they played volume of that game over the AZ game at Buffalo Wild Wings.  Would that EVER happen in NE even if the matchup was NE/TB? Hells no!

83533152Let’s take a step back, what is this article about, oh right, pick ‘em.  While the Seahawks and a mostly healthy Hasselbeck (if you know me, you know how I feel about BC….let’s just say the Steelers don’t hold a candle) have not been quite as awful as last year, they were almost shut out by the Cards just a few weeks ago and remain defeated on the road.  With the receiving jerseys of Hightower and Fitzgerald owning a combined 12 TD’s this year, I’ll take AZ.  The Seahawks can keep their points.

Broncos v. Redskins +3.5

I’ve been saying for weeks that the Redskins record does not reflect how truly bad they are but now that they are 2-6 I think the facts are coming to light.  I agree with Kyle Orton that it is “time to move on” from their recent losses so I hope and expect to see them come out strong and have no trouble taking out the Redskins.  How about a shut out!

Raiders v. Chiefs +1.5

Don’t know, Don’t care!  Cassel, I had hope for you but that has passed.

Enough of my random musings; my mouth is getting tired from sticking my foot in it.  Hope everyone enjoys football this week, I know I can’t wait for my date with my TV and sofa.  Here’s hoping that even the worst of matchups (Saints v. Rams) prove interesting.  I expect there will only be one undefeated team left as of Monday morning.  If not, I will still be reeling from the ridiculous tantrum I had Sunday night, throwing people out of my office if they even mention the game and ranting about how I’m going to follow players instead of teams.  Yes, I’m still scarred and suffer from PTS after “that” superbowl.

Your substitute teacher is signing off and leaving you hoping El Mustachio will be back next week…..
