Last week I talked about the possibility of a former Red Sox starter returning to the team. Now this week a waiver deal between The Dodgers and White Sox will bring another former Sox star back to Fenway this week.
So Manny will be coming back to Fenway yet again, not as big of a deal since he’s already faced the Sox earlier this season but it will be nice to hear the boos when he steps up to the plate.
Now on to the preview:

As I sat down today to look at the week ahead for the Sox, my friend (and Yankees fan) Jeff offered me this great topic to start things off:
Jeff: “Write about Damon.”
Me: “What is going on with Damon, I thought I saw a headline…” (Note: I have been out all night and not paying attention to the news.)
Jeff: “The sox claimed him on waivers.”
Patrick: “WTF!”
Ultimately Damon decided not to leave Detroit but there are two views I’m going...

20 Weeks.
20 weeks later and most of Red Sox Nation is already looking towards football season. 20 weeks later and Jacoby Ellsbury is back on the DL with only 18 games played so far this year. 20 weeks later and I saw the Sox lose to the Rangers this past Friday despite hitting five home runs.
But alas we must carry on and look forward, not backwards. So let’s take a look at what is up for the Sox this week.

Danny Brought Back Doc, Paul, and Ray. Now What?

Danny Ainge has been a busy man since the end of the Celtics’ season.
He has worked to make sure Doc Rivers returns for one more year as the head coach.
He worked to re-sign Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, all the while maintaining some spending flexibility for the remainder of the offseason and for future...
Avery Bradley Fits In Place with Boston’s Offseason Needs

I always have to laugh, at least a little, at “day after report cards” for the NBA Draft. Unless there are major swings and misses, like the Timberwolves last year wasting two top five picks on point guards, it is difficult to get a grasp on a draft because there are still so many other pieces that need...

Anybody Feel a Draft? A Historical Look at Bruins Hits and Misses

So far this offseason, the Bruins have made some pretty important moves as they look to move past the second round for the first time since 1992. Already, the team has resigned heart and soul enforcer Shawn Thornton and re-upped top-pairing defenseman Dennis Seidenberg. On Tuesday, the B’s sent 2009-10...
Moving Forward From 2009-10, Bruins Are on Cusp

And….We’re Back!
How was your offseason, Bruins fans? Get all that stink from the way the playoffs ended washed off? Put away the 2009-10 Playoffs rally towels? Give a gentle nod and pat on the back to all your Celtics fan friends? Good. The epic collapse at the hands of the Flyers is in the past....

Are The Red Sox Doomed?

The Baseball Gods can be fickle and cruel.
Herodotus, the famous Greek historian, once wrote “Do you see how the god always hurls his bolts at the greatest houses and the tallest trees. For he is wont to thwart whatever is greater than the rest.”
Perhaps this explains the horrid streak of luck...

Life After Seymour

It’s been 243 days since the Patriots traded Richard Seymour to the Raiders, and I couldn’t be happier.
It’s been 3,303 days since the five-time All-Pro linebacker was a top choice out of Georgia, and the anchor to a preeminent New England defense.
It’s been 8 months and 1 day since I’ve stopped...
Weird Science? Devin McCourty Shows Unusual Speed in ESPN Series

Patriots first round draft pick Devin McCourty is fast. Faster than a speeding bullet? Not really. But if you saw McCourty on ESPN’s recent pre-draft web series Sport Science, you might reconsider the hackneyed phrase.
In the three-minute segment, host John Brenkus and his team of physiologists and ESPN...
